In an increasingly fragmented landscape, Rai remains a benchmark for viewership, projections, and content quality: steady ratings, with a +1% increase compared to 2023 (unchanged for the 15-64 age group); reliable projections, broadly balanced in the 15-64 demographic since the beginning of the year; guaranteed leadership: the generalist sector dominates the television landscape across all time slots, with a +1.5 share-point lead over Mediaset’s main channels. The fourteenth season of Don Matteo launched with an average total video viewership of 5,000,000 and a 27.8% share, showing particularly strong performance among women aged 15-34 (28.2%) and in the higher socioeconomic brackets (high + upper-middle + middle = 29.3%).
Rai 1’s weekend shows also face no competition: Tale e Quale Show holds the top spot in Friday’s prime time, leading Canale 5 by 6 points; Ballando con le stelle holds its own against Tú sí que vales, which is down 10% compared to 2023. Affari tuoi with Stefano De Martino has set new records: the episode on 8th October was watched by 5,900,000 viewers, while the episode on 11th October reached a 27.3% share. The 2024 episode average approaches 5,000,000 total audience and exceeds 25% share, with a 10-point increase in affinity among the younger 25-34 target.
Italy’s National Football Team rekindles Italian dreams. The October Nations League matches boasted an average total audience of 7,300,000, equal to the qualification matches for European and World Championships.
The holiday season offers a mix of genres and titles suitable for all audiences. Entertainment on Rai 1 includes the Sanremo Giovani finale, co-hosted by Carlo Conti and Alessandro Cattelan; the music competition is part of a broader project, which transforms the Festival into a talent show.
That same week, Ballando con le stelle, the reality show with Milly Carlucci, which has brought joy and cheer to Italian homes for years, concludes. L’anno che verrà promises a surprise-filled edition with a new host, Marco Liorni.
The great stories continue with the anticipated finales of Don Matteo and L’amica geniale, two long-running series that have captivated a large and diverse audience. Also coming is Leopardi – Il poeta dell’infinito, a portrayal of the poet’s life directed by Sergio Rubini, and Questi fantasmi, a TV adaptation of the three-act comedy by Eduardo De Filippo, starring Massimiliano Gallo, Anna Foglietta, and Alessio Lapice.
The cultural lineup includes Stanotte a…, a format with Alberto Angela that explores the world’s most important museums. The scientific communicator will take the audience on a journey to discover the wonders and hidden treasures of the Capital.
Institutional events will not be missing, such as the President’s Message live from the Quirinale Palace (the official residence of the Italian President), broadcast on all networks on 31st December, and the traditional opening performances at La Scala Theatre.
